Support Sammy's Battle Against Cancer

I am Ashley, Sammy’s sister in law.

We, as a family, are starting this GFM for Sammy and her family during this very difficult time.

Sammy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2020. Shortly after, she found out she was pregnant with their 4th son, Benny. Since she was pregnant, she was not able to receive treatments. She had surgery to remove the cancer but after Benny was born, she found another lump in her breast. At that point it was stage 4 metastatic breast cancer, and had metastasized to her bones. Since then, she has been doing several treatments the past 3 years. Treatments to shut down her hormones, as her cancer is hormone fed, bone infusions to strengthen her bones as well as several different medications and treatments to treat the cancer itself. As well as blood work monthly and scans. They were able to keep her cancer stable for the past 3 1/2 years, until March of this year and we learned it has spread more in her bones. And then in June, we learned it has spread to even more of her bones, as well as some of her organs……her lung, gall bladder and liver, the liver being the worst. She started chemotherapy immediately. She has had 6 rounds now and receiving chemo weekly.

With her fighting this for almost 4 years, the medical bills and financial burden has been tremendous. Even with insurance, the financial burden is mounting quickly.

We want to be able to help them relieve some of this stress. This GFM will help pay mounting medical bills, give some financial relief, as well as allow her husband, DJ, to be able to work more from home, and spend more time with her as her physical health is quickly diminishing. As well as helping to pay for alternative treatments that are not covered by insurance.

Any help towards this would be greatly appreciated.

DJ and Sammy have 4 sweet, amazing young boys, Taren is 12, Aiden is 9, Owen is 5 and Benny is 3.

Her husband, DJ, for the past 2 years has been taking on additional side jobs to bring in extra income. But with the increasing need for him to be home more, that has become more difficult.

Sammy is the most humble, kind, giving and selfless person we know. She never says an unkind word about or towards anyone. She literally glows of goodness. She is a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunty, and friend. She is so many things to so many people. She touches anyone and everyone that knows her. She loves to play soccer, and travel. But most of all she cherishes spending time with her family. We need her here!!!!

Update 9/7/2024:

Sammy had her first scans since starting her chemo treatments and found that the cancer has spread even more in her liver. She is now on a more intense chemo treatment that she will do every 3 weeks instead of once a week like before. Because the chemo is so intense, they will be monitoring her heart health closely. She had an echocardiogram to get a baseline and her heart is healthy and strong right now. “Picturesque” is what the tech said.

Sammy started doing hyperbaric oxygen therapy a week before she started the new chemo treatments and will continue to do the oxygen therapy multiple times a week. Even though she is definitely feeling the effects of this new stronger chemo, she feels the oxygen therapy is helping to lessen the symptoms. Unfortunately right now her symptoms include nausea, vomiting and extreme fatigue which has been difficult for her as their boys are starting school and their fall sports. She’s doing her best to keep up with the help of family and friends because we want to keep the boys lives as normal as possible.
