Support Sammy and Tammy Conrad - Medical Expenses
Donation protected
On June 8th Sammy Conrad was rushed from work by ambulance to the Madisonville, Kentucky Hospital with chest pains. From there he was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee for emergency surgery, for an Aortic Dissection (condition where the large blood vessel branching from the heart tears and is often fatal.) On the 10th he underwent his second surgery, where his colon and part of his intestines were removed. This surgery was a result of lack of proper blood flow and oxygen to his organs. They kept him open after this surgery to allow a second glance at all the other organs as well as the intestines to make sure nothing else was damaged/dead. After confirming that all else appeared to be healthy they closed him which was the third surgery. Sammy remains at high risk for the function of his intestines and kidneys, and for blood clots. He was placed on a vent and feeding and drainage tubes. Also, during the third surgery Sammy underwent, they placed a temporary colostomy bag which would allow him to heal and could be removed in about six months. This removal will require yet another surgery.
Sammy has went through confusion, fogginess, and combativeness, (which are classified as delirium) & having to be restrained on top of everything else. Which is not uncommon for someone when going through such trauma, but also causes much depression.
He has had elevated white blood count and numerous fevers. His blood pressure had been running 250/130 for that first week before they finally were able to bring it down some. By the 24th he had fluid on his lungs and was still spiking a temperature, and his body was still not absorbing his nutrition. Because of the nausea and vomiting he only can have sips of water.
Sammy is fighting so hard to get better and is frustrated and feeling defeated. Tammy has not left his side and has had to be strong, when she feels weary and exhausted. She has been in constant prayer and so have her family, friends, and her church family at Bethel Outreach. She is our Sister in Christ and we love her and Sammy very much. This account was created to help alleviate some of the stress that will accompany the many bills that will be upcoming.
If you would like to help this family during this difficult time please do so. Even if you are unable to donate at this time, please remember this family in your prayers. Those prayers mean so much.
