Hello, my name is Aaisha and I’m fundraising for my niece, Sammar Baig.
Sammar is a kind, creative, and resilient young woman whose life was completely turned upside down on March 14, 2025. That was the day our family received the devastating news that Sammar had metastatic cancer — cancer that had already spread to multiple areas of her body, including her spine.
Unable to walk, Sammar was urgently admitted to the hospital, where she underwent major spinal surgery to remove a tumor which caused a pathological fracture in her spine. In the days following, and through extensive testing, doctors were able to identify the primary source of the cancer as endometrial cancer, a rare and serious diagnosis, especially in someone as young as Sammar.
Because of the aggressive nature of her illness, she had to begin chemotherapy and immunotherapy almost immediately, all while in recovery from spine surgery. She has also undergone several sessions of radiation. Between surgery, treatments and recovery, Sammar gets professional medical transportation between three different hospitals. At this time, she remains in hospital as an inpatient while continuing her treatments and slowly improving her mobility.
Our entire family has been shaken to our core. We are rallying together to support Sammar through the unimaginable — and we are reaching out for help.
Sammar has already experienced significant hardships at a young age. Her father passed away suddenly in 2018, and her mother, Shazia, faced a life-altering car accident in 2013. Despite everything, Shazia has been by Sammar’s side day and night, while also working her full-time job remotely to support her children and their household.
Sammar has two younger siblings — both of whom are doing their best to manage school, jobs and their responsibilities while staying present for their sister and supporting her care in every way they can. They are carrying a heavy emotional and financial load, and any support means the world right now.
We are raising funds to support the many overwhelming expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis. These include, but are not limited to:
• Medical equipment needed for her care and mobility once she returns home
• Medications and treatments not covered under OHIP (due to her age she is no longer covered under her mother’s private insurance)
• Home modifications to ensure safety and accessibility
• Transportation and travel costs between medical appointments
• Lost income (Sammar can no longer attend school or work)
• Nutritional support and specialized dietary needs
• Support with groceries and prepared meals
• Specialized therapies (e.g., physiotherapy, occupational therapy)
• Gas, parking, and transit fare for frequent hospital visits
• Support with ongoing housing payments, utilities, phone and other essential monthly bills, particularly for when her mother will require time off work
We are doing everything we can to create a supportive, comfortable, and stable environment for Sammar as she continues this long and uncertain journey — but we cannot do it alone.
If you are able to contribute in any way, please know that your support will directly help a young woman and her family navigate the toughest chapter of their lives with dignity, love, and hope.
From the bottom of our hearts — thank you.
