Support Sami's Journey to a Gender-Affirming Surgery

Hi! I'm Sami. I started my transition in 2017 with going on T, then getting top surgery and a hysterectomy in the following years. I was on the fence for many years about if I wanted to get phalloplasty, but decided last year the time was finally right. The current state of the world is different now than it was when I initially decided, but I've become more determined. I'd feel both more congruent in my body and safer navigating bathrooms in this political environment.

I'll be traveling to another state to go to a surgeon I feel really great about, which adds costs as I won't be recovering at home for the first month. Here is some of what I've already spent:

Electrolysis $4K

Airbnb $3.3K

I don't have a firm idea of what the surgery itself will cost yet, but my estimate is up to my out-of-pocket expense limit for my insurance, which would be around $3-5K.

6/4 Update on costs: I may need to self-pay for the inpatient stay if insurance still denies it after a review with my surgeon, which balloons the cost to $50K+. I'm still hopeful that the review will overturn it, but really nervous about the denial being upheld. The meeting isn't until two days before surgery, which doesn't give a lot of time to know what will actually happen. I'm looking into options on how to help in this worst case scenario and I appreciate any and all help.
