With heavy hearts we share that Samantha (Sami) Megno has been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia. APL is a rare and aggressive form of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) that affects early-stage white blood cells called promyelocytes. It's characterized by an overproduction of immature promyelocytes in the bone marrow, which prevents normal blood cell production. APL requires immediate treatment, including chemotherapy and targeted treatments. The news has been devastating to Sami, her family, and all those who love her.

Sami is a junior at Hampden Academy in Hampden, Maine. She plans to become a CNA once she graduates in 2026. She is employed at Hannaford in Hampden and loves being a cashier there.

Sami resides in Frankfort with her mom Jamie, step-dad Jeff, and sister Allison, along with her fur babies Sophie, Rainey, Sly, and Oreo. She absolutely adores her animals and is lost being away from them. Sami has a spunky attitude, an infectious laugh, and you can always catch her listening to music. Her happy place is the beach; she is obsessed with sunsets and loves to photograph them. Sami also enjoys camping, hiking, snowmobiling, and 4-wheeling. Sami has a generous heart and adores her entire family.

Sami has been admitted to Barbara Bush Children's Hospital in Portland and treatment has begun. The financial burden of the treatments, along with other medical expenses and travel expenses, will be extensive. Jamie has taken an unpaid leave of absence from her job to be her caretaker.

We know times are tough, and there is absolutely no expectation - just heartfelt gratitude for any contribution, no matter how small. Your kindness will go directly toward supporting the family’s living expenses, medical travel, and everyday needs while they walk this unimaginable path.

Please share this GoFundMe link with others so we can get Sami and her family the financial help they need. Sami is a fighter and we know she is going to beat this. Her fight is our fight!
