Help Sam Flynn's Return to Ullo

My name is Sam Flynn, and I am raising money to travel to Ghana, Africa. During my first year at Iowa State University, I joined the student chapter of Engineers Without Borders (EWB). The purpose of EWB is to assist developing communities by designing and implementing sustainable engineering projects, empowering them to build better communities. Our chapter works on projects in the Ullo community in Ghana.

Last year, I thoroughly enjoyed working with the Ullo community and was fortunate to see a project through to completion. At the end of the school year, I was invited to go to Ullo with other students and industry professionals to oversee and assist with the implementation of a solar water heater at a school kitchen. I gladly accepted, and that’s when I fell in love with Ullo.

At the beginning of 2025, I have the opportunity to return to Ullo to work on several ongoing student-led projects, including the construction of a medical clinic for the village. Needless to say, I’m eager to return and serve this beautiful community. In addition, I’ve started a project of my own in anticipation of my return. While in Ullo, I learned that the Senior High School has only seven computers for its 1,500 students. I knew this was something I could help with. Upon returning home, I reached out to recent graduates of local high schools and collected computers and Chromebooks to donate to Ullo Senior High School.

I’m excited about the chance to make an impact and would love the opportunity to spend more time with the community. All donations will go toward my plane ticket and transporting the computers to Ghana.
