Support Sam Bergin's Road to Recovery

On the evening of September 13th, 2025, Samuel Bergin, a 22-year-old son, brother, dear friend, and cherished colleague, was involved in a tragic motorcycle accident near the Vermont boarder in Rensselaer County. His motorcycle collided with an SUV that unexpectedly pulled out onto the road he was traveling on. Fortunately, Sam was wearing a helmet and appears to have avoided any major brain injuries. However, there was considerable damage to his body, including a shattered right humerus, a significant loss of flesh and muscle from his right upper arm/shoulder, serious injury to his right knee, along with other moderate to severe wounds to the right side. He was airlifted from the scene to Albany Medical Center, where he underwent surgery that last approximately 15 hours or more. During the procedure, a bypass was performed on his right arm due to inadequate blood supply. The bypass was partially successful, but he also required the addition of an artificial vein. His shattered right humerus was reconstructed, and his knee was also repaired. His right arm needed to be surgically incised from the shoulder to the wrist to facilitate ongoing pressure release caused by the severity of the injury.

Sam attended school at the Schenendehowa Central School District located in Clifton Park, NY. He exhibited a profound passion for wrestling and embarked on a highly successful wrestling career during his high school years, as well as participating in various other wrestling programs across New York and Connecticut, where he secured numerous victories, including 3rd and 4th place in the "All American Youth" competition for two consecutive years. Throughout this period, Sam fostered strong relationships within the wrestling community. His father takes great pride in this chapter of Sam's life, with the rest of the family also providing unwavering support during his high school wrestling endeavors. Sam is characterized by kind and gentle disposition, yet he embodies the essence of a relentless warrior. He channels this determination into all facets of his life, whether as a dedicated son, brother, friend, or colleague, and in his professional capacity where he aids many individuals in need, many of whom he has never met before.

Sam currently serves as a Security Officer at Albany Medical Center and is regarded as one of the best by his colleagues. He is a friendly face that is relied upon each day. He is a friendly and familiar presence to all within the Albany Med community. The profoundly positive influence that Sam has on his fellow officers, supervisors, colleagues, patients, and visitors cannot be overstated.

Sam faces a long journey of healing and physical therapy ahead. His friends and family are organizing this fundraiser to support him during this incredibly challenging time and to alleviate any stress or hardship that he may experience in the coming months due to the physical and emotional recovery that lies ahead. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated. If you find yourself unable to contribute, we kindly ask that you at least take a moment to say a prayer for Sam and his family. Sam is an exceptionally resilient young man, and we are confident that with his fortitude, he will emerge from this tragic accident even stronger than before. With continued support, we believe that Sam and his family will endure.

Thank you.
