To our dear friends and family,
This is not an easy post to write. When we started dating as young, naive 16-year-olds, we never thought that this is where life would take us.
Over the past 4 years, we have been trying to grow our family unsuccessfully. Sam went for a routine urological surgery in December of 2021, when we received a devastating diagnosis: azoospermia.
A few days ago, we flew to Orem, Utah to pursue further diagnostic surgery. At the time of Sam's surgery, we did not know if this was something that could be surgically repaired or not. We simply did not know what exactly we were dealing with.
After a two-hour surgery, we finally had answers. Sam was born missing both of his vas deferens, a condition known as bilateral absence of the vas deferens, or CBAVD. Due to this, a natural pregnancy without the use of fertility treatments is impossible. We now know that he was born with this condition due to him being a carrier for cystic fibrosis. Male carriers of cystic fibrosis are often (although not always) infertile due to CBAVD. The good news is that they were able to extract vials during Sam's surgery that we can now use for IVF.
Due to the type of infertility we are dealing with, IVF is our only option. One round of IVF is often $20,000+, and it can often take several rounds to achieve a successful pregnancy.
This has brought us to asking for help in order for us to afford these treatments. Anything that you are able to donate to help us finally achieve our dream of parenthood would mean the world to us.
