Saltine Sailing: Two Years of Racing, Rebuilding, and Giving Back

**Note:** This is the same GoFundMe we have used over the past two years! We are updating it to share what your support has helped us accomplish and what we are working toward next. Thank you to everyone who has been part of our journey so far.

Saltine (the boat, formerly White Trash) has been part of Portland’s sailing community for nearly 40 years. The Team Saltine grew up sailing on the Willamette River through Willamette Sailing Club (WSC), and we now compete in keelboat and offshore racing while giving back to the community that taught us to sail.

Over the past two years, we have accomplished a lot. In September 2024 and 2025, we won the youth division at the J/24 World Championship, becoming 2 time J/24 Youth World Champions! We also acquired a second boat for free and rebuilt her and named her Pringle, completing deck repairs, cleaning up and smoothing out the bottom, enclosing the V-berth, and closing in the lazarettes.

With two boats, we have been able to coach young sailors and, in partnership with Willamette Sailing Club and Island Sailing Club, host the Sears Cup Area L Qualifying Regatta. Sharing our boats and experience with the next generation has become an important part of our mission.

Our ambitions have also taken us offshore. Three of our five team members sailed in the Pacific Cup aboard Free Bowl of Soup, a Club Swan 42. Next, four of our five team members are preparing to race aboard Free Bowl of Soup in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race!

Keeping two boats in racing condition and traveling to major events comes with significant costs. Any amount of support makes a meaningful difference.

Your donations help cover the associated costs for the 2026 World Championship Regatta:
Travel Costs - $3,000.00
Rental Car - $1,000.00
Registration - $1,500.00
Charter Fee - $3,150.00

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has supported us over the past two years. Your contributions have helped us become world champions, restore another boat, support young sailors, and pursue opportunities far beyond Portland. Thank you for helping us keep racing and giving back to the sailing community!
