Hello! My name is Sommer, and I am the mother of four amazing children. Our youngest and only girl, Salem, was diagnosed with congenital hip dysplasia earlier this year at 18 months old. Unfortunately, she will require major reconstructive hip and pelvic surgery January 7, 2025. Because of this, she will also be in a half-body (SPICA) cast for up to 4 months after. Additionally, this is something that will need to be continuously monitored until adulthood for Salem and beyond.

Recovery is going to be hard for this vibrant, energetic young girl, and the incredible cost to not only have the surgery but to take the time off needed to aid in her recovery make this time even more difficult.

On top of the already challenging situation, my husband was laid off from a tech industry job and is still actively seeking employment. As such, we cannot afford for me to take much unpaid time off.

Due to the intensity of the surgery, as well as having three other children at home, it’s going to be all hands on deck for the first few weeks of Salem’s recovery.
