Support Saige's Fight Against Biliary Atresia

Our baby girl Saige was born with a very rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia, which leaves the bile ducts in the gallbladder and liver clogged, trapping bile which results in cirrhosis of the liver. BA affects 1 in 30,000 births and can only be diagnosed after birth. If left untreated, BA is fatal. There are only 2 treatments, one is a surgery called the Kasai Procedure, which Saige received at 4 weeks old. Her surgery failed to work and we have since been waiting for her only other option at survival. A liver transplant. Saige has had many complications during this first year of her life leaving us with many hospital stays and constant doctors visits. Cholangitis, unknown growths on her liver, rising tumor marker numbers in her bloodwork, portal hypertension which leaves her at very high risks of internal bleeding. This also leaves Saige with the only option of a deceased donor. All of these things have resulted in UNOS (the board in charge of transplant listing) to grant her maximum points for listing which ended up moving up her timeline extremely quickly and unexpectedly.

Her transplant will cure her Biliary Atresia, but will lead to a very long road to recovery, with typical bouts of complications along the way. Transplant recipients face many challenges, such as rejection and loss of immunity due to immunosuppressant medications to help the body accept the donor liver. After surgery, aside from many many follow up appointments, we will have to be homebound with Saige to keep her safe from any exposure to viruses or infection. This can be a period from 3 or even up to 6 months depending on how well her body responds to the new organ. We will not be able to work in this time, we cannot risk bringing anything home to Saige, as her body will not be strong enough to fight off any germs.

We are very humbly asking for help to relieve some our financial burdens while we prepare to care for Saige. The safety of our girl is the most important thing for us, and for her.
