Portland shows up for its own — and right now, one of our own needs us.
Sage has spent years feeding, welcoming, and caring for this community. After a sudden injury forced him to close his doors, it’s our turn to show up for him.
Sage is the heart and soul behind a beloved boutique hot dog shop and small bar tucked inside a motorcycle shop — a truly Portland kind of place. For years, he’s been a constant friend to the community, opening his doors to anyone who needs a warm meal or a safe place to land, especially during the holidays. Every Christmas and Thanksgiving, Sage welcomes anyone in for food, connection, and kindness, no questions asked. His generosity has quietly made his shop a haven for so many.
His space is also proudly dog-friendly, welcoming four-legged friends and their humans alike, which only adds to the warmth and inclusivity that define who Sage is and what he’s built. Whether you stop in for a hot dog, a drink, or just a moment of conversation, Sage treats everyone like family.
Recently, Sage woke up with a seized back and was unable to walk or even get out of bed. After finally making it to the doctor, he learned he has a herniated lumbar disc. While surgery isn’t required, he’s been told he needs a minimum of 4–6 weeks of rest — no working, no lifting, no being on his feet — in order to heal properly. As a result, he’s already had to close his business. This is a huge blow, as Sage only ever closes his doors once a year for a short family visit to Texas.
Sage is truly what Portland is all about: thoughtful, welcoming, inclusive, and always going the extra mile. His shop offers vegan and gluten-free options, and the care he puts into every detail is something you don’t often find. You will not be disappointed once you’ve met him — even just once.
All donations will go directly toward helping Sage cover rent, medical bills, and keep his business afloat while he focuses on healing. Sage does everything himself — from shopping and creating one-of-a-kind hot dogs to tending bar — so your support truly makes a difference. If you’re not able to donate financially but have time to help with setup or breakdown, please reach out. Community support comes in many forms, and all of it matters.
A portion of the donations will be set aside so that, once Sage is healthy, he can host a special thank-you event for everyone who contributed — a chance to meet this one-of-a-kind human and experience what might just be the best hot dog of your life. Anyone and everyone is always welcome to come down and visit Sage. He will treat you like family.
Most importantly, thank you — for donating, for sharing, for showing up, and for supporting someone who has spent years doing exactly that for others. Portland is better because of people like Sage. ❤️
