Support Sage's Final Heart Surgery

3 1/2 years ago, my sweet baby Sage was born and a week later had his first open-heart surgery. At six months old, we traveled back to Houston, and he had his second surgery. The type of heart defect that he has requires a certain number of surgeries. I, once again, will need to stay in Houston for a few weeks while he recovers from surgery.

Now that my boy is 3, they decided that they want to go ahead and do the third, and hopefully final, open-heart surgery. After this surgery, if all goes well, then he shouldn’t have to worry about having to do anything else with his heart other than take a little medication and get yearly check-ups.

I’m so grateful that I have my husband, his family, my family, and some amazing friends, and even strangers we have met along the way. I don’t know that I could have handled this as well as I have if I didn’t have them. I definitely know that we wouldn’t have made it financially.

We will be traveling to Houston around August 3rd. He will be admitted to the hospital for pre-surgery things on the 4th, and then he will have the actual surgery on the 5th. Recovery will take anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks in the hospital, and we will have to stay in Houston for a week following his release to make sure there are no complications once he leaves the hospital.

I will be out of work this whole time, and Nicholas Ochoa will be away from work, with us at the hospital, for at least a week if not more as well.

We chose not to move to a different house at the end of June as planned because of just all the chaos, close timing, and we all know how expensive moving is… All of this has us just a tad stressed about finances, as I’m sure you can imagine.
