We are the Donut Dungeon in Lexington Kentucky, we set out to create a third place for people to belong and build friendships and talk and get to know one another.
We are a small all ages venue, we are a sober space, meaning we do not sell or permit alcohol or drugs on the premises. We set out to create a space that is focused on giving local musicians and artists a place to perform. We wanted a safe place for everyone to keep teenagers away from drugs, alcohol and from trouble because theres nothing else for them to do.
When we were teenagers we wished there was a place we could go with our friends. A place where we could go to see our localbands play and that wasnt revolving around alcohol. Unfortunately that wasnt something that existed.
We decided to create that space now and we want to give people a sense of community that we feel is lacking these days. Since we opened our doors we have really seen that this is making a difference. Teenagers and young adults tell us how much they love coming here because there is nowhere for them to go. We want to protect that because its important to us because we see what it means to them.
We spoke with the owner of franks donuts who graciously let us use the basement to do this and it has been amazing. They have been extremely supportive of what we are doing and they believe in us and they gave us this opportunity to try to make this dream a reality.
We recently found out that we weren't compliant with local fire code. We met with the fire inspector and he told us he really likes and respects what we are trying to do. He gave us a list of what it will take for us to be compliant.
In order to comply with municipal code we have to install an additional exit, sprinklers, and a few other things that will be costly. We are trying to be compliant and install the things the fire Marshall requested and we cant do it alone. Please help us provide a safe place for everyone to come and enjoy music and art. We want to continue to do this and make a difference in peoples lives. Please support third places. Please support local art and music. Please support young people. Please support us in keeping this dream alive.
