Our story
Beverly Towne Community Development Society (BTCDS) is a non-profit organization founded on the philosophy of “Respect for Yourself, Respect for Others, and Respect for Your Environment”. Our operations are based out of the Abbottsfield Recreation Centre in Edmonton, Alberta. BTCDS supports individuals and families in the North Edmonton area by providing secure and inclusive spaces for children, adolescents, and women. Our dedicated staff and volunteers oversee four distinct programs: Alpha Kidz, Alpha Girlz, Women Growing Together, and Youth Gym. These community-based programs provide complementary and accessible childcare, nurture age-appropriate collaboration, and promote healthy development across the lifespan.
Programs offered by BTCDS:
Alpha kidz:
We began the Alpha Kidz program for children ages 6–12 in early 2009. The program is based on the philosophy of Respect for Yourself, Respect for Others and Respect for Your Environment. This is an after school drop-in program that runs 5 days a week from 3:30– 6:00 p.m. Each day starts with a sharing circle where children are encouraged to talk about what is happening with them and any issues or problems they may be having. Alpha kidz provides different activities including multipurpose room days, cooking days, and gym days. Healthy snacks and drinks are provided for each program.
Alpha Girlz:
A place for all girls ages 12-17 to create meaningful connections and have a safe place to come as they are. Youth will participate in yoga/mindful movement, crafts, and engage in discussion topics. This is a space to hangout, relax, and be yourself. A snack is provided during each session.
Youth gym:
Youth Options provides free programs that focus on strengthening coping skills, developing interpersonal and group skills and encouraging youth to become positive, active members of their community. The program assists youth in the development of important life skills and also provides opportunities to establish positive relationships.
Women growing together:
The program draws on what we heard from residents at the community meetings and will start with programs that are intended to bring people together in a culturally sensitive way to share their skills, talents and stories. We are able to offer an opportunity for marginalized and isolated community members and give you a sense of meaning, purpose and belonging.
The impact of our programs are reflected through parents’ testimonials:
“I absolutely love the help with after school program, a lot of parents in the area feel supported and are able to work or run errands and know that their children are safe and having fun. Staff is amazing!”
“Great program, the kids feel safe and welcome into the program.”
Our goal is to raise $5000 to go towards new equipment for our programs
So far, we have not accomplished our goal and are asking you to help us raise funds, we appreciate your continued ongoing support.
Your generous contributions will enable us to maintain our support for families in the North Edmonton community, offering programs and activities that facilitate skill development, instill values, and foster enduring relationships. By contributing $5, $25, or $50 you are instrumental in our mission to create secure, nurturing, and sustainable environments for community members.
