Sunday evening, Katie and Connor arrived home to find their new home on fire and filled with smoke. Their dog, Sadie, and cat, Toulouse, were in the home when the house caught fire. Connor bravely ran into the flames to rescue Sadie but was unable to locate Toulouse before having to evacuate due to the smoke. Thankfully, the Naugatuck FD showed up shortly after and was able to extinguish the fire. Once the fire was out, Naugatuck FD entered the home and found Toulouse alive but in need of medical attention.
Both Sadie and Toulouse were admitted to an emergency vet Sunday night for smoke inhalation. Due to his prolonged smoke inhalation, Toulouse continues to need oxygen and a bronchodilator. Sadie had respiratory difficulties and received oxygen as well. Both are still at the emergency vet receiving treatment. We are just lucky they are both alive and getting the medical attention they need.
The house suffered extensive burns and smoke damage. The extent of their loss is still unknown but living space was lost and everything is covered in soot and debris. It is expected to take 6 months to a year before Katie and Connor will be allowed home again.
On behalf of Katie and Connor, I want to say thank you to the Naugatuck FD and everyone else who responded to the fire. Without the incredible dedication and action time of the Naugatuck FD, this could have been a very different outcome.
It will be a long and overwhelming road ahead for them, but this will only make them stronger.
I know times are tough, but please consider helping this young family get back on their feet. <3
