Support Sacha During Her Fight Against Cancer

Donation protected
Hello friends,

It’s not good, but it’s important. Our dear friend Sacha has gotten some very bad news and needs our help.

In late 2021, Sacha went into the ER with severe pain in her abdomen and uterus. A large mass was found on her ovary and a surgery was scheduled to remove and biopsy the mass.

In August, 2023, Sacha finally underwent a major surgery to remove the mass, her ovary and fallopian tubes. At her post-op appointment, she learned the challenging news that she is living with two forms of cancer: mixed clear cell carcinoma, and endometrial cancer. These are a combo of rare and aggressive cancers.

On October 5th, 2023, Sacha underwent completion surgery where they removed all of her reproductive organs. They were also successful in the removal of all of the endometrial tissue, however they found two nodules of concern that have been sent into pathology. They will have results for her in early to mid-November where they will determine which stage she is at.

On behalf of our friend, we are asking you to show up however you can and be a part of a large web of care for her.

Sacha needs our collective support to rest and heal. In late October she will begin chemotherapy treatments once a month, for 6 months. The doctors have told her that she will not be able to return to work for at least a year and there are limited funding options for her. We don’t know if she will qualify for government assistance, and since it covers a maximum of 55% of her wage it would still leave her in financial ruin.

We all want Sacha to spend 100% of her energy and focus on healing. That’s why we are asking you to be a part of her web of support, so that we can collectively take care of Sacha’s financial stresses and she can use her energy where it matters most.

If you already know Sacha, you know how amazing she is. If you are part of our extended friends and family, we invite you to join us in caring for our friend and want to make sure you know who she is and why she matters so much to us all.

Sometime in the late 80s, in the middle of July, Sacha was born in the prairies. Depending on who you talk to, she was either born in an abandoned train station, or in an empty caboose. No matter which story you believe, it’s clear that the events of her birth inspired her to travel. From Bali to Belize, China to the West Coast of the US, Sacha has a gift for connecting authentically with people, wherever she lands.

Growing up in Winnipeg and spending a decade or so up in Yellowknife, Sacha ‘s got some great friends in cold places. It’s in places like these where we must build strong communities, and Sacha is a keystone of ours.

She’s our dearest friend. A most loyal friend. A trustworthy confidante. Someone with whom you share the most ridiculous memes and TikToks. Someone you call when you’ve had your worst day, because you’ll know she gets you. Someone you’re excited to talk to when you’ve had your best day, because you know she wants the very best for you! She’s a friend who will kick you in the ass when you’re falling into old patterns and puts in the work to keep you accountable so you can get back on track. She meets your dark sense of humor and raises the stakes - she knows that laughing will keep you from crying. She’s down to cry too though!

Sacha has been every version of this person for each of us. Her friendship is a gift and her capacity to hold space for us is unmatched. We’ve found that the best way for Sacha to know that we love her is to put our words into action. It’s through our actions, following through, and showing up, that we can be there for her at this time. To be present, to listen. We’re learning that this is what matters most right now.

Together, we know her web is capable of reaching a goal of $50,000. This will help to cover Sacha’s regular living expenses such as monthly rent, utilities, groceries, transportation and day to day expenses. She will need help with other things such as nutritional supplements, medications, therapy and mental health assistance.

Every little bit helps, just like many hands make for light work. We understand that things are tight for a lot of folks now-a-days, so if you would like to, and are able to make smaller, regular contributions, we encourage you to check this page monthly. We’ll keep this page active for as long as we need to for Sacha.

We will be making regular updates and will pass on messages received through this page to Sacha. She is happily accepting thoughts, prayers, well-wishes, dumb jokes, ridiculous memes, and most definitely - gifts of beautiful head-scarves and cool toques to keep her head warm and stylish!

Sacha is one of the best friends most of us could ever hope to have. It's an honour to be able to help her when she needs it most. Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting her - we, and Sacha, are so grateful for your help.

With love and care,
Team Sacha
