A Mother's Fight: Help Fund Our Legal Battle for a Safe Future

I'm Sabrina Malik Akmal, a mother of two daughters (9 and 5) in Seattle, and I'm in a challenging fight for their well-being. Every marriage has its challenges, but after years of enduring emotional and verbal abuse - and an incident of physical abuse on May 22, 2022, I made the difficult decision to leave in July 2023. I gave myself a year to see if my husband and I could resolve our issues, but the treatment became worse and my own health was on the line.

I am now facing a contentious and costly custody battle, with a trial set for the week of August 18, 2025. Originally it was set for May 27th, but has been pushed since opposing counsel's attorney (who has since departed) was not able to go to trial for scheduling conflicts. The legal battle continues drag on. My priority is to obtain majority, if not full custody, to shield my children from further harm and to secure a stable, healthy home for their future.

The financial burden of this legal fight is immense. The base trial fees alone amounts to $20,000 a sum I cannot afford right now. For six years, I was a stay-at-home mother, and my current position in interior design provides limited income to fight this. My father has generously supported my daughters and I during this time, even drawing from his retirement funds; however, I cannot continue to rely on my father's own limited means.
