Please help support Sabah and her family

Hello, I am Sabah Rajab Abu Ghanem, a mother of 3 children, and I am from the Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood in Gaza City, Palestine. I am a swimming coach and surfer. I have been in several media stories and documentary films including "Gaza Surf Club", filmed in 2014 and a documentary called Chicks on Boards, directed by Dörthe Eickelberg. It took home the 2021 Sister City Award and Cinemare+Ocean. When I finished filming the film with Dörthe, I got married and quit surfing, and two years ago I returned to surfing, and these are the pictures you see from two years ago in 2022. I was dreaming of establishing a swim club for girls to teach them the arts of swimming and surfing, but the war came and destroyed everything I dreamed of, and now I am separated from my husband and residing with my family. Our home has been destroyed and we are sheltering in Rafah, waiting to evacuate to another area as the war continues.

My brother Mohammed is joining me on this fundraiser to support our family. He is a Palestinian surfing champion and traveled to the Maldives to represent Palestine last year in the Asian Surfing Federations regional championships. We are lucky to be together as a family but our situation here is very bad. Our main need is food but it is very expensive. We have no money and no way to earn money.

Our family is approximately 20 people. Me, my brothers, my sisters, and my brother’s wife who gave birth in the war. We cannot feed her or the mother who just gave birth. I am struggling to feed my children. We feel helpless. The food we can buy is poor quality and our stomachs are sick. We can see better food and meat available here but cannot afford it. We have lost our homes, our jobs and are surviving one day at a time. Now we are being told that we will have to leave our shelters in Rafah and move again. Where will we go?

My family kindly asks for your support to help us survive this terrible situation. We will use this fundraiser to pay for food and shelter. If we can raise enough money we will consider leaving Gaza and going to Egypt.

Thank you for your support.

Hello everyone, this is the story of Sabah Rajab from Gaza in her words, using a translator. Before the war on October 7th, Sabah was a swimming coach who helped young girls in Gaza learn how to swim. She lived a very humble life. But the recent war has taken everything from her. We are helping Sabah and her family to raise funds to secure food and shelter. Sabah is also considering leaving to Egypt if she can secure enough funds for herself, her three children, and her brother. But the first priority is feeding the family and planning for another force relocation inside Gaza. Any support you can provide would be greatly appreciated. My name is Nora and I am hosting this fundraiser for Sabah. Please contact me with any questions. Thank you.
