There are times when a parent’s heart feels heavier than words can express.

The past few years have brought our family grief and sorrow, but today I want to share about my son, Ryne.

Ryne has always been kind, loving, and a defender of those smaller and weaker than himself.

In high school, he volunteered at local elementary and middle schools.

He’s athletic and strong — but today, he’s fighting the hardest battle of his life.

Last year, Ryne was seriously injured on the job. A T-post impaled his leg, groin, and abdomen, stopping just two centimeters from his femoral artery.

By the grace of God, he survived and recovered, though the financial burden of months out of work was heavy.

This March, Ryne developed a painful swollen lymph node while working out of town.

After multiple doctor visits, an ER admission, and a transfer to a larger hospital, we received devastating news:

On April 1st, Ryne was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

He was quickly transferred to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he began chemotherapy immediately.

Thankfully, he’s responding well so far, but this journey is long and overwhelming.

Doctors have said he’ll be unable to work for at least six months — possibly longer.

While he waits for short-term disability to process, the medical and living expenses are quickly piling up.

Ryne is proud and has always been independent, but right now, he needs help.
