Three weeks before they were set to move across the country to start a AuD (clinical doctor of audiology) in San Francisco, my big sibling (they/them) was diagnosed with cancer.

Anyone who knows Rylan understands how deeply generous, supportive, and uplifting they are to those around them. As a speech and language pathology assistant, they have devoted their career to helping children with communication needs find their voice. Growing up with someone like Rylan as my big sibling and role model was too precious for words. I can't think of a single influential figure who was more patient, cool, kind, and wise. The most horrendous things happen to the world's most brilliant people.

Now they're facing major surgery, follow-up cancer care, and the cost of relocating to one of the most expensive cities in the U.S.

Rylan gives everything to others and single-handedly helps me navigate my own health. Now it's time for them to be cared for, looked after, and protected.
