Ryland is a passionate mechanic and a Young Ryder part of the Ruff Ryders. Ryland has always been the man with the plan, dreaming up new ideas, and never letting setbacks slow him down. His love for cars and motorcycles has shaped his life, and he’s worked hard since he was 14 to build his independence. He and his girlfriend Treva have lived on their own since graduating high school a boy has life thrown them their fair share of curveballs. Together, they’ve built a life focused on hard work and resilience, with Ryland always striving to be the best mechanic in the shop and always cooking up his next big idea. I’ve always said: “His plan’s got a plan, got a plan. You can never be disappointed when you’re the man with the plan.”

On August 14th, his life changed in an instant. After making sure his best friend got home safely, Ryland was riding back when a car pulled into the wrong lane. He swerved to avoid being hit, struck something that bucked him up and off his bike causing him to lose control. He and his motorcycle hit the curb and went crashing into the side of a building. The details are a bit hazy from the trauma, but the outcome is devastating:

•Broken left femur, tibia, and fibula

•Torn ligaments in his ankle

•Broken right humerus and hand

•Crushed right foot

Ryland spent the first three days in the hospital in surgery, with more ahead.

Now two weeks into our hospital stay we've learned that unfortunately being none weight bearing on three limbs disqualifys him from being transferred to an inpatient rehabilitation facility. So, we are now faced with the new challenge of getting his home ready with all of the necessary items it will require for him to be able to be at home safely while recovering.

Ryland will spend at least 6–8 weeks in a wheelchair and months in therapy learning to walk again. Doctors say it could be 6–12 months before he can return to work.

The hardest part is that Ryland had just started a new job less than 30 days before the accident, which means he has no insurance, no short-term disability, and no unemployment assistance. On top of mounting medical bills, his home is not wheelchair accessible — we need to make changes so he can live safely during recovery.

He and his girlfriend have already faced more than most young couples should, and now this accident is another heartbreaking challenge. He will require 24-hour care for some time, and while our family is pulling together with everything we have, the financial weight is crushing.

Ryland is resilient. He’s always been a great friend, a caring partner, and a good human. As his mom and as much as I enjoy getting to spend so much time with him(with the inability to run away ), it’s absolutely devastating and heartbreaking to see him in this situation just as the thriving really began— unable to do the things he loves, unable to be as independent as he’s always wanted to be. But I know with faith, community, and support, he’ll get through this.
