UPDATE ON RY
We got some tough news — Ry still hasn’t hit remission. It was heartbreaking to hear, especially with how hard he’s been fighting. But we’re holding on to hope: only 0.04% leukemia cells remain. We are so close.
This month, Ry starts what’s called backpack chemo (blinatumomab), a 24/7 treatment he’ll wear through a small pump for an entire month. We were supposed to begin last week, but his counts were too low. Today, they finally came up — amazing news — and we’re officially moving forward.
He’ll be in the hospital for a couple of days while doctors monitor for side effects and help him adjust to wearing the backpack. So far, he’s been so calm and careful with it — he’s taking it all in stride. ❤️
At the end of this round, Ry will have another bone marrow test. If he still isn’t in remission, a bone marrow transplant may be the next step. It’s a big and difficult process, and one we hope we won’t have to face. But we’re ready to do whatever it takes to get him better.
The truth is, we’ve done everything we can. We’re stretched thin emotionally, physically, and financially. Ry needs round-the-clock care, and we’re preparing to relocate to Grand Rapids soon to be closer to the hospital for more consistent treatment. It’s a lot — and we can’t do it alone anymore.
We need help. From friends, from family, from anyone who’s able to give. Whether it’s donating, sharing our story, or just sending love and encouragement — it all makes a difference. We are so grateful to have a community behind us.
Thank you for being part of Ry’s fight. Hugh & Olivia
