Hi, my name is Ryker Lee. I’m a student at Dakota State University studying abroad in Spain, pursuing a double major in Cyber Operations and Network Security.

While traveling through Barcelona, my backpack was stolen late at night at a public bus station. Everything I rely on for school was inside.

What Was Stolen

• MacBook Pro (M4 Pro, my primary device for coursework)

• iPad Pro and Apple Pencil (used daily for notes and assignments)

• Chargers, batteries, and accessories

• Backpack

• GL.iNet travel router

• Flipper Zero

• iFixit toolkit

• Other IT and cybersecurity equipment

Total Loss

Estimated cost to replace essential equipment: ~€5,000 ($5,500 USD)

Why This Matters

I am a Pell Grant recipient and rely heavily on scholarships to afford college. I don’t have the financial ability to replace thousands of dollars in equipment on my own.

My laptop and iPad are essential for completing my coursework and staying on track this semester.

The additional tools weren’t required for class, but they were a big part of how I practice, build skills, and go beyond the classroom in cybersecurity. I also compete in cyber competitions, and losing this equipment has completely paused my ability to continue competing and developing those skills.
