Support Ryker Champion's Medical Journey

My name is Catie Champion and my newest nephew, Ryker Christopher Champion was born August 8th to my brother and sister in law, Brittany and Jonathan Champion. I have created this GoFundMe to help his parents with the unexpected medical costs as well as the other day to day costs they are incurring while being away from home to be close to their boy. This precious boy is struggling. Right now, there are many unknowns and the doctors at Women’s and Children’s Hospital in Mobile, AL are working diligently to find the best course of action to help him.

So far, the only true specifics we know is that he’s having seizures and apnea due to a possible venous malformation. He’s got a spot on his front temporal lobe that looks like a bleed. His care team has arranged for two MRIs tomorrow; one with and one without contrast in hopes of identifying the exacts. For now, they don’t think that the seizures are related to the apnea and instead are two separate complications. They have also done a spinal tap to rule out an infection in his brain that resulted negatively for his brain thank goodness, but his white blood cell count is extremely elevated and appears he has an infection somewhere. The spot on his brain is on the left side and he is currently lacking motor control for his left side and is unable to open his left eye when he is awake and alert. They have voiced concerns regarding cerebral palsy as well but have not been able to confirm much. At this points, lots of potential outcomes and hypotheticals have been thrown his parent’s way and they are praying that tomorrow holds some answers.

As a single income family residing two hours away from the hospital where their youngest child is, financial concerns are heavy on their shoulders. While they have been blessed to be approved for a stay at the Ronald McDonald house at this time, this also keeps them two hours away from their oldest, Kaylee. So many costs are quickly adding up between food, gas, bills, medical, and the regular day to day. Brittany was taken off work earlier than expected and unexpected medical costs will be adding up daily during this time. It is my hope that we can come together and alleviate some financial stress so Ryker’s parents can be present and here for him during this time without the added stress of financial burdens. Their hearts are heavy and tired during this trying time as they are praying for their boy’s health to improve and for his care team to find some answers. Please pray for Ryker, his family, and his care team.
