Support Ryen Reif’s Medical & Emotional Journey

Hello! My name is Denise Roddick and Ryen Reif is my niece whom I love and adore with all my heart! On February 12, 2024, Ryen was involved in a horrific fire where it burned a large portion of her body. Her legs suffered 3rd degree burns and hands and face suffered 1st and 2nd degree burns. Thanks to her Carhartt coat, the majority of her upper body was saved.

Ryen has been in the burn unit at UW Hospital in Madison since the night of the accident- where she will continue to stay for the next several weeks. The amount of pain this poor girl has had to endure has been heart wrenching. However, she goes forth with a smile on her face and a positive attitude knowing how long of a road she has ahead of her.

Tomorrow she will undergo a skin graft surgery, where doctors will go and remove skin from her back to graft to her legs. This surgery is extremely intrusive and painful and will take an extensive amount of healing time. Post surgery, she will have to have a feeding tube in place for a week and be on strict bed rest in order for the grafts to heal properly.

This will be one surgery with possibilities of many ahead. She will have to wear burn stockings for over a year, countless physical therapy appointments and very limited exposure to the sun. This will be difficult for Ryen as her loves are fishing, hunting and just being outside. The news of her future has her physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted and even through her smiles.
