Support Ryan's Liver Transplant Journey

Donation protected
Hi everyone,

We’re reaching out to ask for your support as our family navigates a challenging time. My husband, Ryan, has been battling Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC), a rare liver disease that developed as a complication of his ulcerative colitis. After years of monitoring, his liver began to fail in early 2024, and this past summer, he was placed on the transplant list.

Ryan is an incredible person – a loving father of three, an Eagle Scout, and a proud graduate of Longwood University’s anthropology department. For the past 13 years, he has served as a Virginia State Trooper, dedicating his life to protecting and serving our community. But now, he needs our help.

After months of waiting and uncertainty, we received incredible news in November – a living donor has been matched, and Ryan’s transplant surgery is scheduled for mid-January 2025. While this gives us immense hope, the journey is far from over. Ryan will be out of work for 3-6 months as he recovers, and the financial strain on our family has been significant.

Over the past three years, the cost of medical procedures, specialist visits, and ongoing care has added up, creating a burden we’ve worked hard to manage. With surgery approaching, we’re asking for help to cover out-of-pocket expenses, surgery-related costs, and the financial demands of keeping our household running while Ryan heals.

As his wife, I’ll be balancing full-time work, caring for our children, and managing the many responsibilities at home during this time. Watching Ryan’s health decline has been incredibly difficult for all of us, especially our kids, but we’re holding onto hope and gratitude – not just for the donor who is giving Ryan this second chance, but for everyone who has supported us along the way.

If you can, please consider donating to help us through this time. Any amount will make a difference and will help ease the financial stress of the months ahead. Even if you can’t donate, sharing this campaign means the world to us.

Additionally, if you’ve ever considered becoming a living organ donor, we encourage you to explore it further. Livers regenerate, and one donor can change a life – just like Ryan’s donor is changing his.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your love, support, and kindness.

With love and gratitude,
The Buchanan Family
