Recently, Ryan was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer known as high-grade, poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinoma. What initially seemed like nonspecific abdominal pain quickly became a life-changing diagnosis that none of them could have prepared for. The past several weeks have been filled with shock, fear, and countless unknowns as they have been forced to take everything one moment at a time.

Ryan began treatment at MD Anderson just last week, and unfortunately, his journey has already taken a devastating turn. Ryan recently suffered a cardiac arrest and is currently hospitalized in the ICU. He is now fighting not only an aggressive cancer, but also the serious complications that have come with it. This has added another layer of fear and uncertainty for Holly and their loved ones as they wait, hope, and pray for his recovery.

In the midst of all of this, Ryan and Holly are also preparing to welcome their baby boy in April. Like many growing families, they had carefully planned their finances around maternity leave, time off work, and the expenses that come with welcoming a new baby. Now, they are facing the overwhelming financial strain of cancer treatment, ICU hospitalization, frequent medical appointments, travel and lodging for care, and extended time away from work.

Much of their available paid time off had already been reserved for the birth of their child. Now, that same PTO is being used for hospital stays, emergency care, appointments, and treatment. As that time is quickly exhausted, unpaid time off becomes unavoidable—placing even more stress on a family that should be focused on healing, hope, and welcoming their son.

This GoFundMe is meant to help ease that burden by assisting with medical bills, travel and lodging expenses, daily living costs, and the financial responsibilities that continue even when life is completely turned upside down. Our hope is to give Ryan and Holly the space to focus on what truly matters: Ryan’s fight for his life and their growing family.
