Support Ryan's Cardiac Rehabilitation Journey

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

My name is Tracy, and my son, Ryan, has a heart condition known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM is a genetic condition that causes the heart muscle to thicken and stiffen, making it harder for the heart to pump blood. Ryan was diagnosed in 2023 at the age of 17, and over the past year, he has undergone several surgeries. In December 2023, Ryan had a defibrillator placed. Then, when he turned 18, he made the decision to have open-heart surgery to resect the excess muscle. Ryan had the surgery in September; everything went well, including his recovery, until 3 weeks later when his defibrillator started malfunctioning. This resulted in Ryan having to be rushed back to the Children's Hospital, where they had to replace the defibrillator they placed in December. Through all of this, Ryan has maintained a positive outlook and responded well to all of his treatments.

Ryan is now going through the recovery process and needs Cardiac Rehabilitation. Unfortunately, due to his age, our insurance will not cover the costs for this condition. Due to the costs associated with the surgeries, travel for his appointments, and time off work, we have gone through most of our savings. Additionally, he does not qualify for medical assistance. I have been left with no other option than to ask for help. We appreciate any and all help, even if you can simply share Ryan's story.
