Ryan has been suffering with back pain for several months, and had been going to the chiropractor to try get relief. This back pain ultimately led to the loss of his farming job in October/November. While he was out walking during deer season he noticed his pain and swelling in his ankle and calf. He would elevate and ice. It would help some, but would ultimately flare back up. A few days before Christmas, he was mentioning his symptoms to me (Talice) and showed how swollen his right leg and foot was. I mentioned it looked like a blood clot and said he needed to get it looked out. On 12/30/24, Ryan went to the Dr in Devils Lake. His D-dimer levels (test that indicates blood clots) were over double what the normal range is. He had an ultrasound of his legs. He infact had a clot. A large one at that, from his waist down to his ankle. He was sent home with a prescription of Eliquis, which he cannot afford to get due to having no insurance. Ramsey drug call the company of Eliquis to try reduce the cost for him, as this drug can help save his life, because it can prevent more clots and this already extremely large clot from growing and disloding and causing a pulmonary embolism, which would kill him. Ryan was brought to Essentia ER by our dad, where he was admitted until a consult could be completed to get a plan in place. He will be having surgery on Friday, 1/3/25 to remove the clot(s). The estimated cost for this surgery is around $70,000. Again, Ryan does not have insurance. He was supposed to start his new job this week with full benefits, but that is being pushed back due to this medical emergency to help save his life.
