BELMAR BEACH BADGE ARREST:
Help Ryan Schreiber: Defending Against Unfair Charges
On August 24th, In response to the unlawful detainment of Liam Mahoney, Ryan Schreiber decided to practice his rights by peacefully accessing the ocean from 19th Avenue in Belmar, NJ. After doing so, Ryan was detained, and escorted from the beach. Ryan complied fully and peacefully during this interaction and was instructed by officers to access the beach from a free access point a few blocks away.
After accessing the ocean from the free access point, Ryan took a walk in the ocean towards Belmar, NJ. While Ryan was standing in the water, two armed officers approached Ryan and immediately detained him and gave lawful orders for him to leave the water for not having a beach badge. Ryan remained peaceful during the entire interaction and supported the officers in their investigation, answering all questions reasonably. When Ryan asked why he was being detained, he wasn’t given an answer. While remaining seated, the officers used force to eject Ryan from the beach, carrying him away.
Now facing charges for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct for fighting, Ryan needs your support to cover his legal fees. Ryan’s court date is set for 9/11 at 9:00 AM.
Your contribution will help Ryan afford a defense against these charges and seek justice for the way he was treated after he lawfully accessed the water. Every donation makes a difference. Proceeds will be used for Ryan’s legal expenses. All remaining proceeds will be donated to the Surfrider Foundation. Thank you for your support.
