On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Ryan Edwards suffered a true medical emergency. He fell victim to a very severe brain bleed and was rushed into emergency surgery in efforts to save his life. Ryan's surgery to remove the right skull cap was successful and relieved the pressure from the swelling of his brain. However, it was discovered just how large and deep the brain bleed was. Time is needed for the blood on his brain to absorb back into the body. It is by God's mercy and miraculous healing and timing that Ryan was able to call 911 and get help in time to save his life. His doctors and nurses have expressed how baffled they are that this happened despite his seemingly great health, leading them to speculate undiagnosed and prolonged high blood pressure.
Ryan's life and list of achievements during this time are nothing short of a miracle. Although he has conquered many victories during his Neuro-ICU stay, he still has a very long road ahead of him. He will be transferred to the Shepherd Center Rehabilitation Center in Atlanta, GA within the next two weeks. The Shepherd Center specializes in brain and spinal injury rehabilitation and is his best chance at getting back to a full life!
As you can imagine, with no known medical predispositions/issues at 30 years old, this has been a total shock to Ryan, family, and the entire medical staff. There was no way to prepare for this sudden and utter devastation within the family. The emotional, mental, physical, and financial toll it has taken has been very taxing and will continue to be as Ryan begins his recovery journey.
Please join us in support of Ryan and the Edwards family as they have walked away from their daily tasks, jobs, and responsibilities to ensure that they are caring and supporting their son & brother during this time.
It is very evident that God has had His hands on Ryan throughout this entire process. Here are some things that you can specifically pray for:
- Blood pressure - Ryan's blood pressure has remained very difficult to maintain and keep down. Please pray that the medical staff is able to get his blood pressure controlled. This is essential for his future but vital to getting moved out of the Neuro-ICU.
- Swallow test - Ryan was ventilated for six days and has been fed through a feeding tube. He has not been able to pass his swallow test thus far. He will have to pass before being fed orally again.
- Mental Health - Ryan is becoming more aware of what has happened and the extent of his condition. He will need continued support and prayers.
- Rehabilitation - Please pray that Ryan's next week(s) at Huntsville Hospital will be filled with daily victories and progress. Pray that his transition to the Shepherd Center goes smoothly and that he reaches milestones of progress during his stay there.
- Family Support - The Edwards family have experienced a true family crisis. Please pray that God continues to cover them in His unending love, peace, and strength.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your ongoing love, support, and prayers mean the absolute world to Ryan and his family!
