Help Restore a Historic Archery Range
Support My Eagle Scout Project!
Hello! My name is Ryan Chen, and I’m a Life Scout with Troop 167 in Temple City, CA. For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I am leading the refurbishment of one of the damaged archery bales and the improvement of 28 safety lanes at the historic Pasadena Roving Archers range, established in 1935 and the oldest active archery range in the United States. I’ve been a proud member of the PRA for over 7 years. It’s where I’ve developed my archery skills, lifelong friendships, leadership, and a deep appreciation for a sport rooted in tradition and focus. This range is a home for hundreds of archers in our community, but it’s maintained entirely by volunteers, and it needs our help.
What My Project Involves
Rebuilding and reinforcing a termite-damaged archery bale to make it safe and usable again. Adding fresh hay bales, secure roofing, and new “No Broadhead” safety signage. Redefining 28 safety lanes across the range with natural stone markers to enhance navigation and safety. Creating a safer, cleaner, and more welcoming space for all archers, from beginners to tournament participants
Why This Matters
This project is critical for the safety and functionality of the range. Without it, part of the facility remains unusable. Completing this project ensures PRA can host full-capacity events, train new archers, and maintain its proud legacy. It also relieves pressure on the volunteer-run club, which often lacks resources for major repairs.
How Funds Will Be Used
I'm aiming to raise "$1,000" to cover the cost of:
-Building materials and tools
-Safety gear and signage
-Food and water for volunteers
-Transportation and equipment needs
-Any funds raised beyond what’s needed will go directly to the Pasadena Roving Archers to support their ongoing efforts.
How You Can Help
Donate: Any amount is deeply appreciated!
Share: Please spread the word with friends, family, and fellow community members.
Support in Kind: If you can donate materials or volunteer time, please contact me directly.
Thank you for helping me bring this project to life. With your support, we’ll preserve a piece of archery history and create a safer, better experience for the entire community. This project is more than just a requirement's my way of giving back to a place that has given me so much.
