Support Ruth's Urgent Dental Care Needs

- Ruth Rodriguez-Fay has been a lifelong community activist and advocate for public education and for communities of color in Worcester, Massachusetts. She is a retired bilingual public school teacher and was a career educator.
- She has been struggling with her dental condition and care since the pandemic, and for several years she has had difficulty finding adequate and affordable dental health services. Her current dental situation has become dire and prevents her from being able to eat well. She eventually had to cut out all hard food from her diet in the last couple of years. As a result, she has lost a lot of weight - she is currently under 85 lbs, down from 125 lbs - and the rest of her health and mental/emotional capacity has also been impacted.
- In late 2023, she received dental implants that did not take or work out, and now three local oral surgeons confirmed that she needs to have the old implants removed and new implants inserted to be able to eat well and begin to regain her health. She also struggles to speak clearly.
- Recently, her mobility has been weakening, and she has taken bad falls in the last two weeks. Most recently, she chipped her front teeth in her denture after a tumble. Her children have already contributed over $20k to her health costs and have cared for her over the last year and a half, and continue helping her with diet and healthcare issues.
- The first stage of her upper dental care requires at least $30k according to oral surgeons who have evaluated her and her sensitive case. Her lower dental care will require additional funds. Ruth does not have retirement funds, nor does she have any assets to support her dental health care costs, which are not covered by insurance or Medicare. Ruthie’s surgeon begins the procedure preparations this week.
