Unfortunately, this weekend has turned into every parent’s nightmare. On Saturday, little Ruthie wasn’t feeling well, so emma took her to urgent care, where she was diagnosed with croup. By Sunday, her breathing became so difficult that they rushed her to the hospital. She was admitted and stayed until yesterday, and they were relieved when she seemed to be improving.

But everything changed again last night.

Ruthie began struggling to breathe, and early this morning her breathing became dangerously worse. They rushed her back to the hospital, where her oxygen levels had dropped to 40%, and her face had started turning bluish. The high-flow oxygen machine wasn’t helping enough, so the medical team moved her to a CPAP machine. Even then, she was fighting too hard just to breathe on her own.

Doctors made the difficult decision to intubate her and place her on a ventilator.

She has tested positive for influenza (teraflu) and croup, and imaging showed signs of pneumonia in her left lung. She is currently sedated, intubated, and being closely monitored in critical care while the doctors work to stabilize her and help her lungs recover.

This has all happened so fast, and her parents are doing everything they can to stay by her side through every moment.
