My name is Katelyn! My boyfriend’s name is Russell Sowers. Between the two of us, we have eight kids together, living in a small town known as Salyersville, KY.
His journey started back in May of 2024. He was diagnosed with Testicular Stage 3 Cancer. Since finding out, he’s had many different hospital stays. Once a month, he goes into the hospital for five days to have six hours each day of chemotherapy. He just finished his fourth round of monthly chemo, which has landed him in the hospital once again.
Normally, when he gets home from chemo, within a week he’s feeling like himself again. Well, this time around he was deathly ill. Every time he’d get up, he would almost hit the floor from being very dizzy and lightheaded. He was always cold, which I know comes along with chemo. But this time was different. He was hot to the touch, running a fever, very congested, coughing, and had body aches. Just all around not feeling well.
Monday morning, I messaged his nurse navigator and let her know his symptoms. I had checked his blood pressure and heart rate and sent in the results to her. His blood pressure was 138/89 and his heart rate was 130-140. His nurse navigator told me to get him to the emergency room ASAP.
And this is where all the stress and worry came in. After getting to Pikeville Medical Center, many tests were run. He was diagnosed with Rhinovirus, pneumonia, and E. Coli. His heart rate keeps shooting to the roof, and his blood pressure kept dropping. His white blood count is 0.2, his hemoglobin is 6, and his platelets are 370.
That led him to have two blood transfusions, and many different antibiotics and fluids, along with platelets in his IV, magnesium, calcium, and iron.
As of right now, October 10, 2024, he is still hospitalized and still receiving these medications to keep his labs elevated.
As I said above, we are parents to eight children. We keep six out of these eight children on a daily basis unless he’s hospitalized or I’m working. Since all of this has crumbled down on him, I have missed many days of work because I don’t have a babysitter or I’m worried about him and needing to be with him. I was told by many different people to make a GoFundMe. I am not one that asks for handouts from anyone. But, we are in a really tight spot right now.
Our bills just keep piling up as I am the only one working when I can. He’s still waiting on approval for his disability, but we all know how long that could take. So, I am asking for anything. Anything will help. Even if it’s just $1. I know times are tough for everyone. So if you can’t donate, I just ask that you please, please, please keep our little family in your prayers. Especially him. I need him healed and need him home with us. We had a few preachers come into the hospital yesterday and pray over him, so I know the Lord is hearing our prayers.
Again, I do not like asking, but I am left with no choice. Please share this for me. Thank you all❤️
