Update on Russell "Rusty" Hardy – Help Us Bring Him Home
After being missing for five days in the Colorado mountains, our beloved Rusty was found but tragically, he did not survive.
Climbing Pikes Peak was one of his lifelong dreams, and we take some small comfort in knowing that he made it to the summit and passed doing something he truly loved. On his descent, he was caught in a severe thunderstorm, slipped on snow, and suffered a tragic, uncontrollable fall.
Now we face the heartbreaking task of bringing Rusty home to Maine so that he can be laid to rest with his family. The cost to transport him across the country and provide the funeral and services he deserves is significant, and we are humbly asking for your support.
Over the next few days, his sisters Debbie and Brenda, and nephew Michael will remain in Colorado working closely with the authorities to manage the recovery and arrangements.
If you're able, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser to help us cover the cost of:
• Transporting Rusty’s body home to Maine
• Funeral and memorial services with his family
• Additional legal or logistical expenses related to his passing
We are so grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support during this incredibly difficult time. Your kindness means more than words can say.
We also want to thank the incredible teams who worked tirelessly in the search for Rusty.
#TellerCountySearchAndRescue – Josh and his team, we are forever grateful for your efforts
#ElPasoSearchAndRescue – Though we never learned your names, your dedication will never be forgotten
#ElPasoCountySheriffsDepartment – Sheriff John Hammond, thank you for your compassion, long hours, and heartfelt conversations with our family
Please help us bring Rusty home
With love and gratitude,
Rusty’s Family
