Help Us Bring Life Changing Surgical Care to Azua, Dominican Republic
We are actively fundraising to support a six-day surgical mission to Azua, Dominican Republic, an underserved community where access to specialized care is extremely limited. This trip will include seven orthopaedic surgery residents, attending surgeons, and an internist, and is only possible thanks to the generosity of donors and the dedication of our volunteer team.
Our first mission took place in 2014, launched through the tireless efforts of former Rush orthopaedic resident Dr. William Slikker. Since then, we’ve continued to rely on donations to secure the surgical supplies and implants needed to provide the highest quality care possible. On last year’s trip, our team performed 30 life-changing surgeries in patients who otherwise would not have had access to care.
What makes this mission truly sustainable is our close collaboration with other U.S. orthopaedic teams and local surgeons in the Dominican Republic, ensuring our patients receive continued follow-up and long-term care.
We’re excited to return this year with seven orthopaedic residents and are currently raising funds to help cover the residents' travel expenses. Your support, no matter the amount, will directly reduce the financial burden on these residents, making it possible for them to participate in this important humanitarian effort.
Your generosity will help train future surgeons, deliver critical care to those in need, and make a lasting impact in a community with limited resources.
Thank you so much for considering a donation. Every contribution brings us one step closer to transforming lives, both for the patients we serve and for the residents learning through service.
With gratitude,
Monica Kogan and the Rush residents
