We are Kappa Delta Rho Beta Gamma at Christopher Newport University. As part of our fraternity, we have a positive relationship with a Chick-fil-A worker, Veta Blagrove, whom we like to call 'Ms. Veta'. She is one of the national sweethearts of our fraternity. She also grew up in Jamaica before coming to Newport News, and her daughter's former school, unfortunately, was impacted by Hurricane Melissa. All proceeds will go to the school's relief aid. "Rusea’s High School – Hurricane Relief & Restoration Appeal
Rusea’s High School in Lucea, Hanover, founded in 1777 through the generosity of Martin Rusea, has served Jamaica’s children for nearly a quarter of a millennium. As the fourth-oldest continuously operated high school on the island, Rusea’s stands as both an academic institution and a living historical site. Generations have passed through its halls, excelling in the classroom and on the field, earning 11 daCosta Cup titles and producing world-class talent like Olympian Merlene Ottey.
The school operates on two seaside campuses:
The historic Fort Charlotte campus (1777), still in use today
The 1970s eastern campus, built to expand Hanover’s educational reach
Both campuses suffered significant damage during Hurricane Melissa, especially in areas that are often overlooked during national recovery efforts. Roofs, classrooms, labs, and student walkways, essential spaces now require urgent repairs.
For old students around the world, Rusea’s is more than a memory. It’s heritage. It’s pride. It’s a place we want to preserve so future generations can experience its beauty, its history, and the same chance at a better life that it gave us.
We are seeking donations to help restore both campuses, protect this historic landmark, and ensure Rusea’s High School continues to serve Hanover’s children for many years to come.
Thank you for helping us safeguard a legacy."
