My name is Kathryn, and I am the Partnerships and Development Manager at PEPY. I have worked with PEPY for a year now, and am humbled by Khmer youth's commitment to education and supporting their communities when given the tools and opportunity. The COVID-19 crisis has been devastating for the youth in Siem Reap Province, a region where the economy is based around tourism. Many of our youth who have worked very hard to support themselves and their families, are being forced to close their own businesses or are losing their jobs. Prior to COVID, our scholarship employment rate was 100%. As of May, our alumni's unemployment rate was 25%. It is increasing weekly for alumni in the education and tourism/hospitality sector.
Small donations can make a big difference to a family in rural Cambodia!
This fund will go toward our emergency response for families short on food with no income and our job placement efforts, and towards our Learning Center vocational training to give both our current students and alumni access to our trained staff and computer labs to diversify their skills and find work outside of the tourism sector.
