I am raising funds for Rupesh, a friend I met during my artist residency in Kathmandu, Nepal, in the summer of 2025. Rupesh works with Conscious Planet and right now he is helping with urgent flash flood relief efforts in Nepal. The scale of this disaster is overwhelming, and many communities still have not been reached at all. To respond, they are establishing volunteer base camps that can serve multiple purposes at once: storing essential supplies, supporting volunteers, and acting as access points to reach remote and harder-hit areas. They are starting with one camp, building volunteer capacity, and expanding outward so help can reach farther into the regions that need it most. They are primarily a group of rock climbers, and combining unique skill sets, they are trying for alternative forms of rescue.
These funds will directly support the practical and human work happening on the ground. That includes:
- Storing necessary goods and aid at the base camps
- Perform alternative rescue efforts - using their skill set with ropes and gears
- Supporting children who have been left to care for themselves and each other while adults search for missing persons
- Helping speed up the identification of recovered bodies with photographers in the community
- Aiding proper servicing of the bodies so that communities can avoid infectious diseases
Donations will also support documentation efforts such as photography, reporting, mapping, and surveying. Rupesh and Conscious Planet are working closely with local government, police, and community members to understand urgent and overlooked needs. Please help if you can.
