A dear friend of mine, Jamie, is experiencing a lot with her loving & beautiful 5 year old boxer, Ruby. It started with rushing Ruby to the ER because she wasn’t acting right and couldn’t hold her bladder. Her eyes were droopy and she could barely move. They decided to admit her, monitor her and talk to the neurologist since she was already a seizure patient. Once the neurologist saw her, he stated she needed an MRI. Her poor Ruby was diagnosed with a brain tumor, glioma. The tumor is the reason for her seizures but then the tumor hemorrhaged which caused her new symptoms. She was put on steroids to reduce the pressure on her brain. She was home for only 25 hours and then had to rush her back to the ER. She had four seizures within the first 24 hours back home. Two of which made her fall over. She was on round the clock seizure medication to try and reset her brain by giving it a break. She ended up having a seizure at 10pm that night after she thought she could break out of the joint and ripped her IV out of her leg. Once the IV was back in, she went seizure free the rest of the time there. The vet wanted her seizure free for 24 hours before they would allow her to come home. They made it to the 24 hour mark and they weened her off of the seizure meds and watched her for a few hours before they let her take her home.
As of January 20 she only had 2 seizures which her doctor wasn’t surprised by. Break out seizures are expected since the medication isn’t a cure all. She had been doing really well and then last night she had 9 seizures. She couldn't walk, she wouldn't eat so Jamie rushed her to the ER. They got her hooked up to midazolam to control the seizures and settle her. They are going to keep her overnight to monitor her since she just had another seizure since she had been there.
This has been an extremely tough and sad time for Jamie seeing Ruby go through all of this especially with Ruby being so young. All of these hospital stays, medication, and other medical expenses add up quick and as we all know make these times extra stressful. I created this GoFundMe for those who are able to help out in anyway possible even $1 if you have the time to help Jamie during this incredibly rough time. Ruby has been a godsend for Jamie. Thank you in advance and I know Jamie will be touched and so appreciative of all your help.
