On May 30th, 3-year-old Ruby was taken to Cox Hospital in Springfield, Missouri, where doctors discovered a 5 cm tumor at the back of her brain. She was immediately transferred to St. Louis Children’s Hospital for further imaging, and on June 4th, she underwent brain surgery that successfully removed the largest tumor. Unfortunately, four additional tumors remain.

Ruby was diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive brain tumor - a high-grade glioma, with a specific type not categorized by the World Health Organization—a diagnosis made even more complex by the presence of an NTRK2 gene fusion and CDKN2A/B deletion. Fewer than 1–2% of pediatric brain tumors fall into this category, and even fewer have Ruby’s specific genetic profile.

Because of the NTRK2 mutation, Ruby is eligible for a targeted oral therapy designed to shut off the gene fusion. The hope is that this treatment will stop the tumors from growing—or even destroy the cancer cells completely. She has currently been on this targeted treatment for two months, with an MRI scheduled for 9/23 to check how her tumors are responding to the treatment. It is our prayer and hope that her tumors have stablized or have began shrinking so she can remain on this medication long-term.

Ruby is the beloved daughter of Brittny and Justin and the cherished little sister of Connelly. Her family is facing every parent’s worst nightmare with extraordinary strength, grace, and faith.
