We are still hoping to attain more of your generosity to continue Rubielas Legacy and travel back to her home town in Colombia to pay our last respects and finally lay her to rest.

My name is Vanessa Salazar, I am Lucia's wife. Lucia lost her mom - my mother-in-law, Rubiela Montoya Garcia, on Sunday, October 27, 2024. Rubiela was a remarkable woman who devoted her life to her family, her work, and the many people she touched with her kindness and resilience. She was a brilliant civil engineer and architect, an artist, and, above all, a compassionate soul who continuously gave of herself to improve the lives of those around her.

Rubiela was born on February 27, 1945, in the rural town of Calarca, Quindio, Colombia. She was the twelfth of fifteen children, a daughter of Victoriano Montoya Valencia and Maria Otila Garcia Gil. Growing up with a deep love for learning, Rubiela pursued her passion and excelled in her studies, eventually earning her Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering, Architecture Drawing, and the Arts from the University of Antioquia in Medellin.

She became a respected figure in her community, working in town planning in Colombia and contributing to projects that continue to serve the people of her hometown. Her architectural designs live on in important local structures like Confenalco and La Casa de La Cultura, which still offer cultural and civil services to this day. Later in life, she also found a calling as an art professor, sharing her love for the arts with students and inspiring many with her creativity and vision.

In 1990, amid Colombia’s difficult times, Rubiela made the brave decision to relocate to the United States for a safer, brighter future. She first settled in Summit, NJ, where she lived for nearly 25 years before moving to Stirling, NJ, her home for the past decade.

To those who knew her, Rubiela was an example of strength and kindness. She faced countless hardships, but her spirit remained unbreakable. She saw the needs of others and always found a way to help, often quietly and humbly. She was a cherished storyteller, especially when sharing tales of her beloved father, her lifelong hero.

For the past six years, Rubiela battled ALS, Lewy body dementia, and the effects of multiple strokes. She was cared for with unending love and dedication by her family. When Rubiela's condition started progressing, feeding and medicating became an overwhelming task that became life-threatening, Lucia decided to put her in a long-term care facility, and after a $6,000 fee and a short stay of 11 days, we now seek assistance with her medical expenses and funeral arrangements.

Rubiela leaves behind her only daughter, Gilma Lucia Andrade; her siblings, Alba Lila, Mariela, Javier, Luz Mery, Margoth, Merly, and Myriam; 63 nieces and nephews who adored her; and more than 100 great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom were blessed by her wisdom, love, and kindness.

We are humbly asking for your support in honoring Rubiela’s legacy. Any amount contributed will go directly towards covering her medical expenses and funeral costs, allowing us to celebrate her life and the incredible impact she had on so many. Mi nombre es Vanessa Salazar, soy la esposa de Lucía. Lucía perdió a su madre, mi suegra, Rubiela Montoya García, el domingo 27 de octubre de 2024. Rubiela fue una mujer extraordinaria que dedicó su vida a su familia, su trabajo y las muchas personas a las que tocó con su amabilidad y resiliencia Fue una brillante ingeniera civil y arquitecta, una artista y, sobre todo, un alma compasiva que se entregó continuamente para mejorar la vida de quienes la rodeaban.

Rubiela nació el 27 de febrero de 1945 en la ciudad rural de Calarcá, Quindío, Colombia. Fue la duodécima de quince hijos, hija de Victoriano Montoya Valencia y María Otila García Gil. Al crecer con un profundo amor por el aprendizaje, Rubiela persiguió su pasión y se destacó en sus estudios, obteniendo finalmente su maestría en Ingeniería Civil, Dibujo de Arquitectura y Artes de la Universidad de Antioquia en Medellín.

Se convirtió en una figura respetada en su comunidad, trabajando en planificación urbana en Colombia y contribuyendo a proyectos que continúan sirviendo a la gente de su ciudad natal. Sus diseños arquitectónicos siguen vivos en importantes estructuras locales como Confenalco y La Casa de la Cultura, que todavía ofrecen servicios culturales y civiles hasta el día de hoy. Más tarde en su vida, también encontró una vocación como profesora de arte, compartiendo su amor por las artes con los estudiantes e inspirandomuchos con su creatividad y visión.

En 1990, en medio de los tiempos difíciles de Colombia, Rubiela tomó la valiente decisión de mudarse a los Estados Unidos en busca de un futuro más seguro y brillante Primero se estableció en Summit, Nueva Jersey, donde vivió durante casi 25 años antes de mudarse a Stirling, Nueva Jersey, su hogar durante la última década.

Para quienes la conocieron, Rubiela fue un ejemplo de fortaleza y amabilidad. Enfrentó innumerables dificultades, pero su espíritu permaneció inquebrantable. Veía las necesidades de los demás y siempre encontraba una manera de ayudar, a menudo de manera silenciosa y humilde Era una narradora muy querida, especialmente cuando compartía historias de su amado padre, su héroe de toda la vida.

Cuando la condición de Doña Rubiela comenzó a empeoar, alimentarla y medicarla se convirtió en una tarea abrumadora que puso en peligro su vida, Lucía decidió internarla en un centro de cuidados a largo plazo y, después de pagar una tarifa de $6,000.00 dollars y una estadía corta de 11 días, ahora buscamos ayuda para sus gastos médicos y arreglos funerarios.

Rubiela deja atrás a su única hija, Gilma Lucía Andrade; sus hermanos, Alba Lila, Mariela, Javier, Luz Mery, Margoth, Merly y Myriam; 63 sobrinos y sobrinas que la adoraban; y más de 100 sobrinos y sobrinas nietas, todos ellos bendecidos por su sabiduría, amor y bondad.

Humildemente, solicitamos su apoyo para honrar el legado de Rubiela.
