To everyone that knows Ruben, these past weeks have been a reminder that even the bravest among us sometimes need a helping hand. Recently, he was transferred from Laredo to Methodist Hospital in San Antonio for a higher level of care. As his illness has progressed, his condition has been worsening, making specialized treatment essential. This has been an unexpected and incredibly difficult time for everyone who cares about him. Right now, Ruben is focusing on fighting and healing, but the medical expenses, travel, and the fact that he has exhausted all his leave due to his illness are creating a heavy financial burden. Anyone who knows Ruben knows how strong, hardworking, and caring he is. He has always been the kind of person who shows up for others without hesitation. Ruben is also someone who takes great pride in handling things on his own and would never ask anyone for help. Because of that, we decided to take it upon ourselves to reach out to our community on his behalf.
