In October, Roy began feeling unwell, experiencing back pain and a severe cough. When he visited the doctor in early November, he was told it was a pulled muscle and sent home with steroids and pain medication. Unfortunately, his symptoms worsened, and by late December, Roy was extremely short of breath. A visit to the walk-in clinic revealed his chest was full of fluid and there were numerous masses in his abdominal area. He underwent a chest wall drain and was referred to oncology, but delays in scheduling and communication made the process even more stressful.
Despite these challenges, Roy continued to struggle with his breathing and required multiple emergency room visits and additional procedures to drain fluid from his chest. Eventually, he was admitted to a hospital in Fargo, where he was diagnosed with Large B-Cell lymphoma and began cancer treatment. This diagnosis has changed our lives in an instant, and Roy now faces a long-term treatment plan that requires us to travel 110 miles to Fargo every three weeks. Any complications mean emergency services and medical transport back to Fargo, adding to the uncertainty and stress.
While Roy’s health insurance will cover much of the treatment, we are still responsible for co-pays, uncovered expenses, and the costs of frequent travel. The loss of overtime at work has made things even more difficult for us financially. We are so grateful for the support of our friends, family, and community, and we are starting this fundraiser to help with the unexpected expenses of travel, medical care, and supplies to keep Roy safe at home. Your support means the world to us as we navigate this challenging journey together.
