Hi there! My name is Roya, and I am a first-generation college student attending Cal State University, Long Beach as a Psychology major. I have applied and gotten accepted into the Spring 2025 Semester abroad in San Jose, Costa Rica. I chose this program because it aligns with my strong desire to travel and experience global diversity.
Getting to participate in this program offers a rare and invaluable opportunity to gain real-life experience, immerse myself in a new culture, and align with my academic and personal goals.
Studying abroad in Costa Rica provides a unique platform to explore and understand different cultures, religions, and societal norms, and to observe how these elements influence cognitive functions and behavior. Engaging with Costa Rican culture firsthand will allow me to investigate how various factors—such as values, ethics, activities, and lifestyle—affect overall well-being and happiness. By immersing myself in this vibrant environment, I aim to gain insights into how different cultural practices and societal structures contribute to psychological phenomena and enhance my academic growth.
Additionally, my Panamanian heritage adds a personal dimension to this opportunity. Being able to connect with Latin American culture and explore my own roots is particularly meaningful and exciting for me. I am eager to delve into Costa Rican culture and enhance my understanding of my Latin heritage. I show myself, my family, and the world what I am capable of with your support.
