Hi, my name is Robin, and this is my sweet cat, Roxy. She’s been by my side for 14 wonderful years, ever since my second year of university. Roxy means the world to me, and watching her go through this recent health crisis has been heartbreaking.
Earlier this week, Roxy suddenly stopped eating and started vomiting every few hours. Our family vet tried a shot of Cerenia to help with the nausea and sent us home with medicine to coat her stomach, hoping it would ease her discomfort. Unfortunately, by Sunday, she became lethargic, started drooling, and wasn’t eating, drinking, or using the litter box. After consulting with a close friend who’s a vet, I rushed her to the emergency vet hospital.
Roxy spent from Sunday to Monday midnight in the hospital, where she received fluids for dehydration, a nasogastric tube to empty the trapped fluids in her stomach, blood work, and an ultrasound. Thankfully, her bloodwork and ultrasound showed no issues. It seems that the motility of her intestines may have slowed down for an unknown reason, preventing the fluids in her stomach from passing, which caused them to accumulate and made her sick.
Roxy has been slowly recovering and has started eating again, though she’s still not quite herself. I’m hopeful that I’ll see more improvement over the next few days, and I’m doing everything I can to give her the best care possible.
Unfortunately, the cost of this vet visit goes beyond my means. I feel weird even asking for help, but friends have encouraged me to try this in order to pay off the debt to the vet. The total cost of her hospital visit was just over $3500, I don’t expect anyone to help cover it completely. Please don’t feel obligated to donate, but thank you so much if you do.
