…And God said, I will send them without wings so nobody suspects they are ANGELS.
Meet Our Angel, Roxie. She doesn’t know it, but she is our breath of life. Roxie is a Pomeranian, Merle color, but unsure of her exact age. Approximately five years old, we were told. Roxie was rescued from a horrendous, horrible situation that was discovered in a Trenton, Georgia home on/around July 2, 2025. Roxie was there with approximately 260 other animals-found in a severe state of neglect, some deceased, and/or abused. According to the rescuers, Roxie was found in a dog crate, her hair mangled, full of feces and very low weight. Scared and barely hanging on to life.
Roxie ended up at a rescue facility, called Fraternity of The 4 Paws, Inc. The facility named her Petunia (which we later changed to Roxie) where she was taken to VCA River - Regional Institute for Veterinary Emergencies and Referrals for a complete and thorough check-up. She was very thin, had very little hair, a tooth growing out of her mouth sideways from where they think she had been trying to gnaw her way out of her crate and her stool had rocks in it from what she had been eating.
Our daughter, Alexis (Lex), who is one of the Internal Medicine vet techs at the facility of VCA River, works under internist Dr. Amy Holford and radiologist Dr. Lee Emery, discovered Roxie has a heart condition called patent ductus arteriosus - PDA for short. This was found via echocardiogram (echo). The results were sent to cardiologist (Dr. Goodwin at VCSG) to determine the necessary treatment plan needed for Roxie‘s health. "PDA is a heart condition in which a blood vessel called the ductus arteriosus, which is normally present in a baby‘s heart before birth remains open after birth.“
We have been told that the majority of these animals do not live past puppy months. Luckily, Roxie is thriving; however, she was seen for a cardiology work-up with Dr. Goodwin who reviewed her previous echo. He advised us of Roxie’s current condition and what medical treatment we should seek for her while she’s healthy. If we wait until Roxie gets sick, the success of her surgery will be much less than if the procedure is performed while she’s healthy.
We were advised that Roxie needs a stent to be inserted into her thigh to keep the fluid draining and not cause her to go into congestive heart failure. Heart surgeries are extremely expensive-this is where Roxie needs your generosity and your help to keep our little girl with us. Cardiology recheck appointments and the surgery itself are very expensive - raising money with a rescue facility is extremely tough and takes quite a while. The rescue facility has been hit with so many of these stories with different sicknesses and diseases that we felt we should try to raise enough money on our own for our little Angel.
Please know that all monies raised on Roxie’s behalf will go directly towards her heart related care/surgery and post-op appointments.
We thank you in advance of your kindness and support for our little Roxie.
Much love and appreciation,
Wayne, JoAnn, Alexis, & Roxie
