ROWAN'S STORY
Rowan, a sweet, rambunctious cheeky 2 year old was experiencing some slight discomfort at times while walking and had a fever that he his body just couldn’t kick so his dad Kevin decided to take him to the hospital to get him some relief. After a traumatic and stressful couple of days with lots of testing and unknowns, Rowan was finally diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL), a blood cancer that affects 1 in 1,000 children per year. Rowan has been such a brave boy and so far has completed 10 weeks of chemotherapy, 28 days of steroid treatment, and 3 hospital stays. His wonderful caring mama, McKenna, has to give him shots twice per day at home, and he has to go into the hospital every week for treatment, as well as waering a backpack for constant infusion treatment. This will continue until he is officially in remission, but even then he will still receive weekly and monthly treatments for the remainder of the next 2.5 years and monitored for the next 10 years. The other challenge for Rowan will be handling his fragile immune system and there may be several other hospital stays if he gets any viruses or infections which will extend his end of treatment.
THE STRUGGLE
Kevin has had to take a short term leave of absence from an already new job in order to take Rowan to all of his appointments and frequent emergency hospital stays over the last 10 weeks.
McKenna has been trying her best to keep a sense of normalcy with her other three children, Rowan's sisters, who are all in school together. The cost of school plus keeping up with all of their activities, driving to and from school and the activities to allow them their special time to shine has also taken a toll on their bank account and mom and dad’s mental capacity. Kevin’s leave of absence has to end this week so now mama will have to take on almost all the daily tasks by herself while still keeping the girls in their school and going to activities every day.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
How can we help this beautiful family? Let’s all band together to make the financial part a little less stressful so they can all focus on Rowan healing as fast as possible. A $25 donation will help with gas and chipping away at utility bills. A $50 donation will pay one copay and help with the girls’ school and sports. $100 will help towards the mortgage, and $200 would pay for a week’s worth of groceries.
Your compassion and generosity are what make this village around the McClain family such a special community. We all love them and they have given so much to everyone else, it’s time we band together and take a little off their plate if we can.
If you want to follow along with Rowan's journey His mom writes monthly updates and shares the reality of what they are experiencing.
